The Perth Region

The capital of Western Australia.  This City is placed in from the coast along the Swan River. Fremantle is the main port for the city and retains some of the older building styles of Perth it is worth a visit to see the old and modern marine areas and to have a coffee in the Cappuccino strip.   Perth itself is a modern metropolis vastly grown and different since my last visit.  Perth has a wonderful botanic garden called Kings Park which has developed extensively since the 1970’s and offers a fabulous view of the City of Perth.  Driving around the base of the park, along the Swan River, is also amazing the mining boom seems to have manifested itself in rows and rows of new giant homes… The beaches south and north of Perth are great the long beaches north with there white sand and the snorkelling areas in the south… Particularly beautiful is Peron Point, just south of Rockingham,  a marine park and the start of the snorkelling trail.    Just off the shore from Rockingham is Penguin Island.  There are numerous boat rides to the Island, its surrounding smaller islands and around Point Peron out daughter bought us one of the rides and we saw bottle nose dolphins, Sea Lions and the Penguin sanctuary.   A must see is a day at Rottnest Island off the Fremantle.   I first visited this island in 1970’s it has changed but is still charming.  There are few cars and the sapphire waters are magnificent.  We hired a bike and rode around looking are all the perfect beaches and snorkelling spots.  Perth and its surrounds are big, we have not attempted to visit every area in one visit but as we return we will try to see another area.
